Facilities/Benefits
We use Bedfont & Feltham sports ground as our main base, while club runs take place at Waterside on weekday lunchtimes. We also use the Hillingdon track at Uxbridge as a training base for our track & field competitions.
Social
The club social evening is Wednesday at the Bedfont & Feltham sports ground where from 6pm the prime activity is a run over a range of distances, followed by a retreat to the club for a shower, change and refreshments. Once a month there is a CIE (Club in-house Event) designed to give all an opportunity to get involved regardless of ability or fitness. These include relays, handicap runs, coached sessions and fitness sessions. In winter months we also organise a monthly NOW (Non-Office Workers) event which will be a lunchtime run followed by a visit to a café and usually an additional attraction such as a visit to the Brooklands Museum.
Events
Club members participate in a wide range of events in and around London, across the UK and worldwide. Each month there is a ROM (Run of the Month) which is usually a West London event which club runners are encouraged to enter - sharing lifts or meeting up afterwards for a recovery drink. On the first Thursday of each month we run a lunchtime Dream Mile event which is a straight, uninterrupted, one mile run along the Bath Road. Club members participate in and share stories about local and not so local Saturday morning 5k parkruns - between us club members have run at 475 different parkrun venues! The club hosts its own events including the Speedbird Ladies 5k, held in May on Harmondsworth Moor. The club also provides significant support for the BA 5k charity Fun Run held in July each year. The club enters teams in winter cross country leagues and summer track & field leagues and has a reputation for participating and finishing well in team relay events such as the Green Belt Relay run around the perimeter of London each May. Then there are the foreign trips! The highlight of the year being the annual World Airline Road Race which over the last few years has been held in Dubai, Chicago, Singapore and Victoria (Canada).
For details of these and other events email news@barunner.org.uk or see the latest club digest at http://www.barunner.org.uk/News_Latest.shtml. All are welcome but please let us know to expect you!
London Marathon Marshalling
We provide a large marshalling team for this event which not only provides a great opportunity to see it from roadside but also leads to additional opportunities to enter the following year's event. We also support three or four other annual events that the London Marathon group organise each year.
Cost
Our subscriptions and fees are very competitive compared to other clubs in the area. With the option for BA Club members to join other sections we offer great value for money. The section can also manage subscriptions to UK Athletics for race entry discounts.
