About

We are a friendly group of mostly retired staff who get together every Sunday morning for a walk in the glorious English countryside. The walks are usually between eight and ten miles, starting at 9am and finishing at lunch time. Areas covered are the North Downs, Thames Valley and The Chilterns.

During the summer months we go further afield to the South Downs or the Cotswolds. We make these walks a 10am start and have a lunch stop along the way.

For members who like the walks to be a bit shorter we have two mid week walks each month of between five and six miles in length. These walks start at 10.30 am and finish at a pub for lunch.

Our full title is the International Walking and Rambling Section (IWRS) and as the name indicates we travel abroad and have walked in USA,China, North Korea, Nepal and Africa, but in recent years we have used the services of Ramblers Holidays to set up week long walking holidays for us. For example Samos, Crete, Portugal and Majorca.

Each May we have a walking weekend away in the UK and in June/July we go to Germany where our friends set up accommodation and walks for us and in September we go to Switzerland where again our friends look after us.

We have a short walk followed by a lunch on a Sunday in the weeks before Christmas and a dinner dance at the beginning of January.

Our section meets on the first Monday of the month at 8pm in a Concorde Club conference room where new members would be most welcome.

The AGM takes place at the April monthly meeting where the walking programme for the coming year is distributed
