TenPin Bowling
We are part of British Airways Clubs and are based at the Airport Bowl, Bath Road, Harlington, UB3 5AL. Membership of the Tenpin Bowling section is open to both BA employees and their families, and non-BA employees on an affiliate basis. We welcome people to join as an individual and sign up to an existing team, or, get some friends together and join as a team.
Facilities/Benefits
We meet throughout the year at the Airport Bowl every Wednesday evening, excluding school holidays. As a section/league bowler, parking and entry to the Airport Bowl are currently free of charge.
Competitive Bowling
The section operates a three-person team (trios) league, bowling three games. Lanes are pre-booked and the league starts at 17:55hr sharp, usually finishing between 19:30hr and 20:00hr.
Currently there are ten teams in the league. Each team will compete three times against other teams, as laid out in the league schedule; this runs for approximately one year, commencing in February.
Teams tend to register at least four or five bowlers, to ensure that they can field a full line-up for every match.
A handicap system is employed, based on every bowler’s average, to encourage new bowlers and competitiveness.
Annually, prizes are awarded for team scores, individual scores and final league positions.
The league is registered with, and governed by, the BTBA (British Tenpin Bowling Association).
There are also many opportunities to take part in bowling tournaments in the UK and airline tournaments that occur all over the world throughout the year.
Cost
Annual membership fee £28. Weekly cost to bowl is currently £30 per team (£10 per person) for three games of bowling. This includes a small amount towards the prize fund.
The league is partly subsidised by BA Clubs.
